Summary

As a precaution, always make sure the Mirror is in the up position when transporting a Phase One camera.

In-Depth

Phase One XF, 645DF, 645DF+, and 645AF
The mirror mechanism in a camera has very little pressure holding it in the down position to allow for a quick response when activating the shutter. As such when transporting the camera you should make sure that the mirror is lock in transport position.
You do this by simply detaching the digital back from the camera body while it is powered off.

  • You can then either re-attach the back or use the rear cover plate.
  • If the mirror does not stay up, remove the batteries and then remove the back.
  • On the XF, the mirror should retract automatically when powered off, but removing the back briefly will retract the shutter blades as well.
  • Lens can stay attached, if removed then attach cover here as well.

With the lens removed you can very easily see if mirror is up or down.

Back is attached and mirror is down, the camera should not be transported like this.

Mirror is up and you can see background through the body.
Attach covers to front and back and the camera is now ready for transport.

Phase One XT
If you are transporting the XT in the custom foam insert for the Nya-Evo RCI, make sure it is placed in as designed.  If stored improperly, damage may occur during rough transport as there will be room for the camera to move around.

  • The tripod mount must be rotated to the portrait position
  • The camera will then it upright in the cutout.
