Summary

The lens was built before most of the current camera models. Some of the parts inside are not compatible, but can be updated by our repair team. When mounted on a Phase One AF, DF or DF+, a Mamiya 105-210mm ULD lens will not show the aperture value or function in any capacity.

In-Depth

The Mamiya 105-210mm ULD lenses, built prior to 2004, have internal components that will not work with the newer Phase One AF, DF, DF+ and XF cameras. If your lens was built prior to 2004 or has a firmware version lower than 2.2, please contact your local Phase One partner for service. The issue is known to the repair centers and the service should be completed with relative speed. The repair team will exchange an FPC board inside the lens for a newer revision which is compatible with the cameras. To find the nearest Phase One partner, please refer to the link at the bottom of this article.

Determining the lens firmware version can be done the following ways:

Phase One AF/Mamiya AFD III, Phase One DF and DF+ camera bodies

  • Set the top dial to custom function (CF) mode.
  • Rotate the front dial to access CF number 98
  • The number displayed is the lens firmware version.

Phase One XF
Legacy Mamiya lenses do not communicate the firmware electronically to the camera body, and thus the digital back does not have a record of it either. Images created with these lenses cannot record the lens firmware value in the metadata. A Phase One partner or Support team member can help determine the firmware of these legacy lenses if the only body available is an XF. Please contact either via the link below.
